I dare not say it. I can’t say it…

Okay, here it is… Summer is nearing its end here in the northland. (Sighs and grunts united.)

But! Never fear, Glensheen is here. (Sorry, I had to.)

We are continuing to rock right into August with one last concert, an opportunity to watch sharks, and one more month of this summer’s special tour offerings.

Here is what we have on tap for you in August at Glensheen in listicle form (Because, in the mindset of Thrillist, the world needs more listicles.) :

Photo Tour | Daily – August 27th

LAST SHOW of the 2017 Concerts on the Pier series

Each year, Concerts on the Pier comes to an end. Those warm, sunset summer nights are burned into our minds while we hang on to the season of sun a bit longer.

Thanks to Mother Nature and the feisty temperament of Lake Superior, Feeding Leroy’s concert which was originally scheduled for the second night of the series, has been rescheduled to THIS WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 2ND.

We have a special treat for you this week as Lake Avenue Restaurant and Bar, is the featured food vendor for the grand finale evening. As always the lovely,Zenith Bread Project will be here serving their famous pretzels. Plus, a cash bar with pop, water, wine and local beer will be available.

As many of you may have figured out, the best seats are ON the water. We encourage you to walk, bike, boat, kayak, paddle or basically anything but drive here. The Glensheen parking lot is limited, as is the street parking nearby. To avoid the congestion, take a spin out on the water!

If you don’t take one of the fabulous kayak tours by The Duluth Experience or Day Tripper of Duluth… a good spot to launch is from a small public beach off of London Road and 42nd Ave E. It is a little bit of a paddle though.

If driving is your transportation option, please refer to the City of Duluth’s alternate side parking calendar when parking on neighborhood streets. No one wants a ton of cars parked on both sides of the street they live on, so help us be good neighbors and park on the ODD numbered side of the street this week. Thank you!

Gates open at 6:00 pm so be sure to arrive early to ensure a good spot. Music starts at 7:00 pm and concludes at 8:00 pm.

Glensheen offers tours from 9:00 am — 7:00 pm on Wednesday nights in July and August. Taking a tour prior to the concert is a great way to snag a good parking spot and the best seat on the shore.

For more information and concert updates follow Glensheen on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram or visit us at glensheen.org

Shark Watching Society Bonfires

Duunnn dunnn… duuuunnnn duun… duuunnnnnnnn dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnn dunnnn. Anyone catch that?

In an effort to keep the waters of Lake Superior shark free, join us Wednesday nights in August to keep watch while enjoying a bonfire on the shore of Lake Superior.

We must admit, there is no immediate threat of sharks in the waters of Lake Superior. But it did make you think twice didn’t it? This event series is simply a way to utilize Glensheen’s shoreline in the fantastic summer months.

Glensheen is one of the few legal locations for a bonfire on the shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota, a perfect Duluth summer night activity at a prime location, right on the shore of Lake Superior.

The event is FREE and runs from 7:00 pm — 10:00 pm.

Kick back with a local beer in hand. Beer and wine will be available for purchase at a cash bar. There are chairs available but it is suggested that guests bring their own chairs.

If you haven’t caught on yet… PAIR WEDNESDAY NIGHT EVENTS WITH A TOUR OF GLENSHEEN! Every Wednesday evening this summer, Glensheen will be offering extended hours until 7 pm for the Classic and Full Mansion Tours.

Last Chance at a Glance

If you have been hearing about the new summer offerings we have been rolling out at Glensheen and have yet to experience them, this month is your last chance to do so!

Self-Guided tours will be coming to a close at the end of this month and making their return next summer. Classic Tours and Full-Mansion tours will be fully guided beginning August 28th. Don’t worry, we are keeping the Passbook around but the Treasure Book may or may not stick around for the duration of the year. Now is the time to have some happy little kids on your hands at Glensheen!

Photo Tours are a summer offering as a majority of the tour consists of our scenic views on the estate. Snap some early morning pics on our 12-acre estate before it’s too late!

Extended Tour Hours will also begin their hiatus the last Wednesday in August. Tours are available until 7:00 pm on Wednesday nights all summer.

Speaking of the last Wednesday in August…

Stay tuned. We are working on a new event series for 2018 to test out on Wednesday August 30th, 2017. Your hint is the photo above.
