Night at the Museum

This is your night to enjoy the mansion — at night… for free. On October 4th, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Glensheen is opening its doors to you for FREE self-guided tours.

Enter the estate through the Formal Entrance at West Gate just like a Congdon guest. Then enjoy a self-guided tour through the main floor, second floor and lower levels of the mansion.

In addition, this is a chance to see pieces of the collection not usually showcased… up close and personal.

As the tour ends, cap the night with a drink from a cash bar in the lower level and a snack from food trucks on the estate. Then take your food and drink to check out what Glensheen has in store for you on the 12-acre estate…

Explore the lakeside, 12-acre estate illuminated on a crisp fall night. See the picture-perfect stone bridge spotlighted and all of the lakeside of the mansion dramatically lit.

Guests will receive a punch card when they arrive, outlining all the must-see stops. Turn in your completed punch card to be entered to win a free Premier Tour for four!

Parking is first to come, first served. Please carpool, walk, or bike to Glensheen. The parking lot will fill quickly. Please refer to the city’s street side parking regulations.

Bring cash for food and beverage purchases.

There will not be reserved tour times. Tours will be let in the mansion on timing and capacity factors. Please plan on waiting in line to tour the mansion. First tour entry will be at 6:00 pm and last tour entry will be at 9:00 pm.

DISCLAIMER: Night at the Museum tours will reach capacity very quickly. Not every Night at the Museum attendee will tour the mansion. Reservations for tours will not be taken. It is first to come, first served.

Fall PhotoMeet at the Mansion

Glensheen is hosting a fall sunrise photography event for all.

You don’t need to be an Instagrammer or a part of any club to attend. Amateurs, professionals, and everyone in between are welcome!

Those of you who have snapped a sunrise photo know that waking up early is a big part of that! We will be ready to go with coffee on at 6:30 am for the sunrise, which is set to be at 7:15 am. If you want to show up a bit later, that’s fine too!

There will be plenty of Duluth Coffee Company coffee on hand to fuel our fall color sunrise experience. We encourage you to roam the estate and explore all 12 acres.

The event is free, family-friendly and all are welcome!

We love to re-share photos from these events on our social media pages! If you are sharing your images on social media please tag @Glensheen and use #sunriseatglensheen.

A prize for the Best Photo will be awarded! The best photo will win a Glensheen Premier Tour for two and a one night stay at the Inn on Lake Superior.

Join us! Saturday, October 7th from 6:30 am — 9:00 am.

Whiskey Wednesdays

Thanks to a partnership with Grandma’s Restaurant, Whiskey Wednesdays is a collaborative event series enjoyed by both the first-time whiskey drinker and the seasoned scotch fan.

The event is free and open to the public with a cash bar. Whiskey Wednesdays are every Wednesday in the month of October from 6:00 pm — 9:00 pm.

So why whiskey? Here’s the tie-in to Glensheen: Chester Congdon served as a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1909 and 1911. This was during the movement to start prohibition, and Chester voted against prohibition in every version that came before him.

So as a fun way to explore that unique part of American history and in honor of Chester’s support of booze, we have created Whiskey Wednesdays.

One of the most common drinks of the time — was whiskey. Whiskey, though, was not commonly thought of as the sophisticated drink of the wealthy. In addition, there are persistent rumors that Clara Congdon was against booze. So in keeping with that history… we serve Whiskey Wednesdays in our newly reopened garage which was a space used by the Servants.

Sip on a whiskey in a historic environment with close friends and family.

Whiskey Wednesdays will take place in the newly opened Garage with seating outside by Lake Superior. We encourage you to explore the grounds with your beverage in hand.
