Whiskey Wednesday 9/14/22

September 14, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free
Two people stand on a path in front of a brick mansion with the text "Whiskey Wednesdays in September, 6-9pm".

Whiskey Wednesdays are perfect for those looking to soak in fall colors at Glensheen with an outdoor event or for history buffs looking to learn more about the history of Duluth or prohibition in the Northland. This year, we are excited to welcome Duluth historian and author Tony Dierckins to Whiskey Wednesday events to give a history talk each night. Tony’s talks will take place on the following dates starting at 7pm:

September 7 – Concerts on the Pier with Teague Alexy & The Common Thread (There will be no history talk this night)

September 14 – Robber Barons on the Iron Range

September 21 – Lost Industry

September 28 – Prohibition in the Zenith City

Whiskey Wednesdays are every Wednesday in September from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

The event is free and open to the public with drinks available for purchase. In addition to whiskey, there will be beer, wine and non-alcoholic options also available for purchase.

Picnics and food delivery are allowed, however, we encourage you to try the local food truck grub that’s available for purchase! The Rambler will be here for each Whiskey Wednesday this year.

The estate quite literally glows during this event. Fall colors, lakeside campfires, and the estate lights illuminated, it makes for a magical night on the estate. Pro tip: Whiskey Wednesdays are great for date nights. We encourage you to explore the estate with a drink in hand.

Why whiskey?

One of the most common drinks of the Congdons’ time – was Whiskey. However, whiskey was not commonly thought of as the sophisticated drink of the wealthy. So in keeping with that history… we serve Whiskey Wednesdays in our newly reopened garage which was a space used by the Servants.

Plus, Chester Congdon served as a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1909 and 1911. This was during the movement to start prohibition and Chester voted against prohibition in every version that came before him.
