Glensheen and Zenith City Online present “Shaping the North Shore in St. Louis County”. Featuring Glensheen director Dan Hartman and Zenith City Online publisher, Tony Dierckins. The event is a modification on the popular “TED Talk” style presentation; each speaker tackles the topic in just fifteen minutes.
Tony Dierckins will discuss activity along the shore in the second half of the 1850s, just after the Treaty of LaPointe allowed settlement on the “Minnesota side” of Lake Superior, when adventurers from the east dreamed of the opening expansive copper mines.
Dan Hartman will discuss one of the forgotten stories of how Chester Congdon was instrumental in the development of the North Shore Drive and how eventually his vision proved to be worth the investment in money and time. Hartman will also explain how it wasn’t an easy task, even for one of the most influential and wealthiest of Minnesotans.
Presentations will be held in Glensheen’s Amusement Room in the lower level of the mansion. Guests will enter through the mansion’s front door.
