Did you know, that one of the companies who contributed decor to Glensheen would eventually be the forerunner to the University of Minnesota’s Art Education department? Did you know that the company was managed, founded and primarily staffed by women, making it important to the women’s movement not only in Minnesota, but in the country. This company is the Minneapolis Handicraft Guild.
Susan Leaf, a celebrated historian from the Twin Cities, will be coming to Glensheen to give a presentation on the celebrated history of the Minneapolis Handicraft Guild. After the presentation, Glensheen tour guides will lead tours throughout the home showcasing the different work that the Handicraft has throughout out the home.
This event is made possible by a grant from the UMD School of Fine Arts John and Mary Gonska Cultural Fund.
