Bad Bad Hats is an indie rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Kerry Alexander and Chris Hoge met in college and formed the band in 2012. In the 10 years of BBH, they have toured the country many times in their trusty minivan, sampling the best local cuisine along the way. Their fun and upbeat sound is sure to make you groove.

Yonder consists of band members who stem from a background in various local groups with intertwining histories: front women Hattie Peach (violinist, vocalist) and Emma Jeanne (rhythm guitar, vocalist) began experimenting as co-writers years ago as college roommates in Duluth, MN. Peach brings the folk flair to the band with a knack for lyrical storytelling that comes from a lifelong dedication to blood harmonies with her family group, The Penny Peaches. Emma Jeanne adds distorted punk rock guitar and searing lyrics fused with her witty songwriting. Sidestepping from his typical role as frontman and bassist of Lapdogs, Oliver Gerber returns to his true love, lead guitar. Hailing from Rochester, Dylan Hilliker holds down the ones and twos on drums in Greentop, Horse Tornado, and now Yonder. The latest addition, Calvin Carrison, of infamous jester-core group Big Delicious brings the bass.

The Penny Peaches consists of sisters Hattie and Grace Peach, who are “like the Swedish sister duo First Aid Kit without the accent.” Their peaceful sound and gorgeous harmonies ring out to any audience. According to the band, Glensheen is extra near and dear to Hattie, as she spent her college days working here as a tour guide and student gardener. We can’t wait to have her return!

Concerts on the Pier | Ross Thorn w/ Life Parade

August 21, 2024 @ 5:00 pm 8:00 pm

Ross Thorn has a pastoral upbringing in northern Wisconsin, whose music emanates as a warm and soulful hymn, waking up optimistically beside a snow-covered window. His sharply crafted lyrics – distinctly reminiscent to the likes of Jason Isbell – reveal internal struggles of empathy, questions of human character and virtue, and a search for hope – often finding solace in some unanticipated truth.

Life Parade are pop rockers with a clean, uplifting sound that can move and groove like early Blur or take on epic melodies like the best of Radiohead. The group is fronted by guitarist and songwriter Cameron Mathews, who began performing solo around the Twin Ports in 2014. Mathews formed Life Parade with members of the now-defunct band the Resonance, including Dan Munthe on keys and guitar, Cliff Lavigne on bass, and Scott Kimball on drums.

Chastity Brown is “a banjo-playing soul-singer” and “a rocking, rolling encyclopedia of roots music.” Music critic Jim Walsh of the Star Tribune commented, “…for those who appreciate songwriter-fueled jazz and a sense of organic greatness in the making, she is nothing short of a massage therapist for the ears and soul.

The Gemstones: AfroGeode began as a solo project by Diona Johnson, upon finding what she describes as her “musical soulmates” she expanded her sound to include a full band known as AfroGeode & The Gemstones which consists of keys (Courtney Ellian), bass (Emanuel Eisele), electric guitar (Josh Nickila), and drums (Ian Hopp). One year ago, the band tragically lost founder and frontperson Diona Johnson. Today, the band has continued to play, while honoring Diona, and now goes by The Gemstones. The band spans genres in the form of reimagined jazz-influenced covers as well as originals. The band has classical training and roots in Jazz; their most treasured genre’s include Jazz, Funk and Soul.
