POSTPONED: Concerts on the Pier – Feeding Leroy

The Concert on the Pier featuring Feeding Leroy has been postponed until August 2, 2017.

Join us for an evening of Minnesota music on the shores of Lake Superior!

On July 12th, Glensheen continues its free Concerts on the Pier series with Feeding Leroy.

Feeding LeRoy came out of the collaboration of Sonja and Lee’s original songs, blending into a unique project, with their songwriting and vocal harmonies as the focus of this bands sound. It’s kind of a family affair now, with brother Luke stepping in on the harmonica and long time friend and bassist, Adam Staupe on the upright bass, both adding their vocal harmonies, creating somewhat of a gospel undertone that acts as it’s own instrument in the band.

Free concerts have been happening at Glensheen every Wednesday night in July for many years. However, in recent years, all of the bands began playing on the 100-foot pier extending into Lake Superior. Each of the bands have Duluthian ties making the series a showcase for our region and Minnesota’s talent.

Concertgoers line Glensheen’s Lake Superior shoreline while kayakers and boaters enjoyed the free music from the water. Concerts on the Pier is a celebration of the lake, local bands, one of Duluth’s historic locations and Minnesota.

Chester Chat: Local Food Movement

In recent years, the demand for locally grown food has put pressure on food providers to reassess the food options they present. A local food expert will be here to answer the question of what they are doing to impact the local food movement.

What are Chester Chats?

It is a fun, fast-moving presentation series of three speakers who are each limited to ten minutes. Each month an important topic to the future of Duluth is chosen. To help promote the casual nature of the event, there will be a cash bar with great wine and local beers.

What is the purpose of Chester Chats?

As a past legislator, Chester Congdon was one of Duluth earliest promoters and boosters. He spent much of his fortune and time not only making Duluth better for all but also, to let the rest of the world know how amazing it is.

So in that tradition, Glensheen created a series to help educate the public on important subjects relevant to the prosperity of Duluth.

Presentations will be held in Glensheen’s Amusement Room in the lower level of the mansion. Guests will enter through the mansion’s front door.

Doors open at 6:45 p.m.
Happy half hour from 7–7:30.
Speakers begin at 7:30.

Whiskey Wednesdays

Whiskey Wednesdays is a collaborative event in partnership with Grandma’s Restaurants meant for everyone from the first-time whiskey drinker or the seasoned scotch fan.

Chester Congdon served from 1881 until 1886 as assistant United States attorney for the district of Minnesota, as a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1909 and 1911. This was during the height of prohibition and Chester voted against prohibition, more than once. In honor of his support of booze, we have created Whiskey Wednesdays.

One of the most common drinks of the time – was Whiskey. Whiskey though was not commonly thought of as the sophisticated drink of the wealthy. In addition there are persistent rumors that Clara Congdon was against booze. So in keeping with that history… we serve Whiskey Wednesdays in our newly reopened garage.

So sip on a whiskey while in a historically impactful environment with close friends and family.

The event is free and open to the public with a cash bar. Whiskey Wednesdays are every Wednesday in the month of October from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

Whiskey Wednesdays will take place in the newly opened Garage with seating outside by Lake Superior. We encourage you to explore the estate with a drink in hand.
